GRANTS AND PROGRAMMES

I know the Foundation gives grants to arts organisations  Does it ever give grants to individual artists?
While the Foundation does not give grants directly to individuals, it does provide support to non-profit organisations which in turn provide professional development and project grants to individual artists.

Does the Foundation fund international projects?
The Foundation’s grant programme is primarily focused on supporting institutions within The Netherlands, however, in rare cases, we will make grants outside the country. For this reason, we accept letters of inquiry from arts institutions abroad. Please include a brief description of the organization and of the project for which you are seeking funding. In limited cases, the foundation will then request a full proposal.

If my organisation has applied to the Foundation and been turned down, do I need to wait for a cycle before applying again?
No. There is no waiting period after an unsuccessful application.

If my organisation applied at the September deadline and received a grant, how long must I wait before re-applying?
If, for example, your organisation receives a one-year grant, as a result of an application in the Fall grant cycle, you would be eligible to re-apply one year later, in Fall of the following year. Please be aware that priority is given to organizations that have not received recent funding.

Can I apply for a curatorial research fellowship if the institution I work for is applying for exhibition support (for a different project) at the same time?
Yes.

If I have received a curatorial research fellowship is my institution eligible to apply for support for the exhibition that grows out of my research?
Yes.

Does the Foundation make grants for art education or for student shows?
No.

When applying for multi-year programme support, do you require a full two years of detailed program information?
Recognising that organisations often need to be flexible and responsive to their communities and the artists they serve, the Foundation does not require that all details of future programmes be locked in at the time of application. It is best to present a few examples of upcoming exhibitions or projects that together indicate a clear programmatic direction, these should be accompanied by a statement of curatorial priorities and strategies.

When submitting a proposal from an organisation that is not a museum, does the “exhibitions opening no sooner than six months from the grant notification date” rule apply?
No. This only applies to museum exhibitions. For those institutions seeking multi-year program support, projects may begin immediately upon grant notification. For instance, if applying for Sept. 1- programmes can begin in January. For March 1st deadline, programs can begin in July.
